Hitachi Energy Boosts Team Spirit with Boards on Fire

Hitachi Energy in Ludvika is constantly finding new ways to use Boards on Fire in their digital daily management. With their own concept “The Breaker Challenge,” they add a bit of gamification to everyday life and increase engagement among all employees.

“We wanted to try something new to boost the motivation and energy in our improvement work generally. We figured some form of gamification where groups could compete with and against each other in a fun way would be exciting to try. The result was The Breaker Challenge and Boards on Fire became the channel through which we could realize the idea,” says Anna Langörgen, Operations Manager at HV Breakers Hitachi Energy.

Point Hunt for All Employees

The Breaker Challenge is a point hunt where all teams at the HV Breakers factory gather points by completing various missions. These can be, for example, implemented improvements in different areas, taking a lunch walk together, giving job-related positive feedback, or maintaining the weekly pace. Additionally, they have the Challenge of the Week which varies from week to week.

Each team logs their points daily on their own board in Boards on Fire, and everything is compiled in a scoreboard where they can follow each team individually as well as the total points of the whole unit. Each month, the team of the month is crowned and gets to keep the traveling trophy until the next winner is announced.

Becoming a Hot Topic at Work

There are also various milestones that award prizes on both team and unit levels when a certain score is reached. These range from branded merchandise and Friday coffee with the team to inspirational lectures and festivals for the entire unit.

“The Breaker Challenge has become a positive talk of the town among the employees. It's fun when groups encourage each other to gather more points to become the best team of the month,” says improvement leader Lisa Jacobsson.”
