How did we actually manage before Boards on Fire?

With more than 60 years of experience in magnet manufacturing and around 40 employees, Sura Magnets in Söderköping supplies both national and international customers. When the company wanted to gain better visibility over its production and work more systematically with problems and deviations, it chose to digitalize its daily management using Boards on Fire. The result has been more efficient pulse meetings, clearer accountability, and positive trends in several key performance indicators.

– Introducing Boards on Fire has been very positively received by employees across the organization. After just two months, one of the team leaders said it was hard to understand how the business had managed without the system before, says André Kullberg, Operations Manager at Sura Magnets.

From Analog to Digital Daily Management

For a long time, Sura Magnets managed their daily operations using analog methods. Information was written on whiteboards and paper or communicated verbally between meetings and shifts. This way of working has long been common in industry, but it can also make it difficult to gain a shared and up-to-date understanding of what is actually happening in production, something Sura Magnets had begun to recognize.

– Information was often incomplete, and it wasn’t always clear which people needed to be involved. One contributing factor was that we lacked a clear overview of the production, says André Kullberg.

Another challenge was the absence of a clear structure for how deviations should be identified, prioritized, managed, and followed up. Over time, it therefore became clear that the organization needed a more structured way to visualize the status of production. Since October 2025, the analog approach has been replaced by digital daily management in Boards on Fire.

More Efficient Pulse Meetings and Clearer Accountability

A clear change after the implementation is how deviations are handled. Today, deviations are registered directly in the system and can quickly be assigned to the right person. This allows problems to be identified earlier and followed up more systematically. At the same time, positive trends can be seen in several key metrics, including OEE, delivery precision, and cost of poor quality.

The daily pulse meetings have also evolved. Sura Magnets works with the areas Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Motivation, where teams use status flags to visualize the current situation. If all flags are green, the meeting moves on quickly, but when a flag is marked red, an activity is always linked to it. This makes it clear what needs to be done, who is responsible, and when follow-up should take place.

A Dedicated Module for Urgent Obstacles

To quickly address issues affecting production, Sura Magnets has also developed its own module in the system called “Acute Obstacles.” This is where issues that require immediate action in production are gathered. By collecting them in a shared workflow, the team can easily prioritize what is most critical at the moment and ensure that the right resources are allocated to the right problems.

Why Boards on Fire Became the Natural Choice

When Sura Magnets began reviewing how their daily management could be improved, the question of the right system support naturally came up. Several employees in the organization had previously worked with the Boards on Fire solution at other companies, which meant the system quickly became part of the discussion.

– Since the system was already familiar to people in the organization, there were good conditions to quickly get started with a more visual, structured, and shared way of working, says André.

The implementation did not require a fundamental change in how the teams worked. They continued working in much the same way as before, but with the support of Boards on Fire the work became more visible, structured, and easier to follow up.

Employees have responded very positively to the system. After just two months, one of the team leaders said it was difficult to understand how the business had previously managed without it, reflecting how quickly the organization adapted to the new way of working, which is now a natural part of everyday operations.

Future Vision

With part of the journey toward a more digital way of working already behind them, and more still ahead, Sura Magnets sees Boards on Fire as an important part of how they can continue developing their operations. By making work more visual, transparent, and structured, they have created better conditions for quickly identifying problems, prioritizing the right actions, and driving continuous improvement in production.
