The family-owned company Thor Ahlgren was founded in the early 1900s in Skillingaryd, Småland, and began its journey with in-house tool manufacturing. Over the years, the business has grown and evolved into an established contract manufacturer for the automotive, electronics, and engineering industries. The company has now taken the next step in its development by digitalizing daily operations with the help of Boards on Fire.
Thor Ahlgren is a qualified contract manufacturer serving the electronics, engineering, telecom, and furniture industries, with around 35 employees on-site in Skillingaryd. Despite long-standing experience and stability, the company faced everyday challenges, including inefficient work processes related to daily management, which slowed down development. By implementing Boards on Fire’s digital solution for daily operations, Thor Ahlgren has, over the past few months, created a more productive and transparent workday and the results are already starting to show.

Previously, Thor Ahlgren managed daily operations across multiple systems, including whiteboards and Excel spreadsheets. This made it difficult to maintain a shared overview and hold effective discussions. Information often got stuck on whiteboards or in Outlook, key performance indicators were not updated consistently, and many employees lacked clarity on what was expected of them. The result was slow processes, missed deadlines, bottlenecks, unnecessarily high costs, and increased strain on staff.
A combination of identified improvement needs and positive experiences from previous workplaces led Thor Ahlgren to reach out to Boards on Fire to explore a digital solution for daily management. While there were many alternatives, the choice was natural, according to Thor Ahlgren, because the system had already proven to be effective and flexible.
Since implementing Boards on Fire, workflows at Thor Ahlgren have changed significantly, even though they have only been using the tool for about three months. Unlike before, they can now easily visualize different projects and their status. They can quickly identify where work is stalling and clearly see who is responsible for each task. Improvement initiatives are now driven forward in a more structured way, and it is easy to archive and showcase what has been done, both during audits and internally. They have also seen increased engagement and stronger risk awareness within the organization.
– Our efficiency has definitely increased, as has employee engagement and risk awareness. These are things that are hard to quantify, but extremely important, says Andreas Granberg, Production Manager at Thor Ahlgren.

The team has responded positively to the change. Clear communication during the implementation process, combined with strong organizational drive, made the transition smooth and well-received.
– As a driving force, I recognize the importance of maintaining a positive attitude, which inspires others to do the same. BOF doesn’t do the work for us, but it makes our activities and results visible. Because everything was communicated clearly in advance, the reception was much better, says Andreas.
Thor Ahlgren has taken the first steps toward a more efficient workday, with the goal of continuing to improve processes and achieve even better results. We plan to follow up in a few months to evaluate progress and identify the next steps in their improvement journey.
