Integrate Boards on Fire with other systems

Technology & Integrations 2023-04-19

In dialogue with new customers, we often get the question whether it is possible to integrate Boards on Fire with other systems to automatically retrieve and update data. The answer is – yes, it works perfectly well. And it doesn't even have to be particularly complicated.

If data is available from somewhere, it is also possible to retrieve the information and visualize it in Boards on Fire. This can be data from, for example, ERP, CRM, MES, PLM, production systems, management systems, machinery, or other systems. An integration can be solved in various ways depending on the conditions in each individual case. A smooth way that has helped several of our customers quickly connect Boards on Fire with other systems in the business is via file upload to an SFTP server:

Integration with Boards on Fire through file upload to sftp server explained.

Simply explained, all that is required is for the customer to be able to retrieve data from their data source and convert it to a CSV file, which is then uploaded to an SFTP server that we are responsible for. The customer can set internal rules for the file to be updated automatically and at which interval it should be uploaded to our SFTP. Afterward, the content of the CSV file is connected to the correct data source in Boards on Fire, and all components in the customer's environment using that data source are updated automatically.

We have two mandatory fields that must be included in the CSV file; timestamp and an organization ID so that we can ensure that all data ends up correctly in Boards on Fire. In addition to that, it is entirely possible to customize the file content with the exact columns that the customer needs.

Boards on Fire also has an API that allows our customers to solve more complex integrations on their own, in collaboration with us, or with another IT partner.
